On August 22, 2012, in the team meeting room of the university’s newly opened John McKay Center, USC president C. L. Max Nikias addressed members of the Trojan football team. Referring to Trojan athletics as the glue that binds the Trojan Family together, Nikias noted that there is no better place in America than USC for athletics and academics. He also harked back to Trojan legend, reminding the student-athletes that the warriors of Troy were at their best when they faced impossible odds.
