On Sept. 12, 2012, USC president C. L. Max Nikias addressed a collective gathering of members of all of the Boards of Councilors for the university’s schools and libraries. Highlighting recent accomplishments in the areas of faculty recruitment, online education, student scholarships, capital construction and more, Nikias acknowledged the significant role advisers have played throughout USC’s history, ever since Judge Robert Maclay Widney called together the first university “council” in June 1886. “But also be certain,” Nikias said, “that what we have achieved so far is merely a prelude to the glorious success that awaits us in the future.”
