On Oct. 2, 2012, President C. L. Max Nikias presented opening remarks for “Twice Tested by Fire: A Conversation with Cecil L. ‘Chip’ Murray,” an event sponsored by USC Spectrum and the Office of Religious Life. Murray, holder of USC’s John R. Tansey Chair in Christian Ethics and retired pastor of Los Angeles’ First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME), chronicled the inspirations and challenges that have shaped his life as a spiritual and community leader.
