The very imaginative expression “All roads lead to Rome” has its origins in the ancient city’s very real history: more than 50,000 miles of paved road radiated from the heart of the Forum, facilitating the movement of people from far-flung locales. This helped make Rome a center for scholarly and creative thought, a place for leading thinkers to speak, teach, and exchange ideas.
At times, it can seem as though all roads lead to USC. As president, I often marvel at the diverse array of visitors who converge on our campuses. Last year alone, our illustrious guests included journalist Christiane Amanpour, Nobel laureate David Baltimore, writer Judy Blume, artist Lena Dunham, filmmaker Werner Herzog, and innovator Mike Markkula.
