Amid celebratory fanfare and the pageantry of an academic procession, the class of 2017 was formally inducted into the community of USC scholars by President C. L. Max Nikias, in the presence of academic leadership and the new chairman of the Board of Trustees, John Mork.

As he welcomed the incoming class, he encouraged them to pursue new experiences during their time at USC—through travel, new friendships, and explorations of a breadth of disciplines available to all undergraduate students. His remarks emphasized the six areas of literacy that USC students will master during their studies: in imagination, arts, world cultures, literary works, digital media and ethics. As the event drew to a close, he led the new Trojans in their new signature stance—hands raised in the “victory” signal while cheering “Fight On!”
