The USC Shoah Foundation—The Institute for Visual History and Education, honored global humanitarian George Clooney with the Ambassador for Humanity Award during a gala event in New York City on October 3, 2013. The event brought together a gathering of high profile individuals and researchers committed to the education mission of the USC Shoah Foundation. In his introduction to the award, USC Shoah Foundation founder and USC Trustee Steven Spielberg noted Clooney’s many humanitarian and human rights contributions, including his role founding the Not on Our Watch project, an organization that seeks to prevent future atrocities.
The event included Jon Stewart as master of ceremonies, an appearance from Sandra Bullock, and musical entertainment by Norah Jones. The sold-out gala brought nearly 800 people together for the evening at the American Museum of Natural History.
The USC Shoah Foundation is dedicated to making audio-visual interviews with survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust and other genocides a compelling voice for education and action. Founded as a nonprofit organization in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, the Shoah Foundation was entrusted to the University of Southern California in 2006 and is part of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
