During the holiday weekend celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., USC President C. L. Max Nikias welcomed several key stakeholder groups to the USC campus for high-level civic dialogues. He welcomed Los Angeles County Supervisor (second district) Mark Ridley-Thomas during the 21st annual Empowerment Congress Summit on Saturday, January 19, 2013. This event brings together constituents, community leaders, business owners, and local organizations to engage in quality dialogue around the issues that are most important to the diverse constituency in the Second Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County.

President Nikias also welcomed the Los Angeles Police Department and Police Chief Charlie Beck for the fourth annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Celebration, an event commemorating the transformative partnership between the LAPD and the African American community.
